Although the cold weather has well and truly arrived, Kingham and all the areas around Chipping Norton are looking lovely. We look out into the garden at Cotswolds Country House and see the birds preparing for winter but the pool, even though it’s closed, keeps us dreaming of summertime! From May to September (inclusive), the pool is available to use and is in equal demand for families with younger children who love to splash about, but also for groups of adults who… love to splash about! It’s bigger than a hot tub, but not quite big enough to do ‘lengths’. Still, why would you want to do that on a staycation holiday when you’ve got a cocktail on the side and a group meal to look forward to later?! Our swimming pool is cleaned once a week, to make sure it’s always clean and ready to use for new guests. It’s in the garden, visible from three of the bedrooms and has a patio area around it, for al fresco dining. We’ve often found that the pool is a perfect place for a dip after a relaxing day walking in the Costswolds countryside. It’s heated, although not to the same extent as commercial swimming pools. Instead, the water is pumped through a ‘solar matt’, which warms the water gradually, especially on a hot summer day, so it takes the chill off the pool water. It’s still a rarity to find self catering accommodation with a swimming pool, so don’t hesitate to get in touch about booking Cotswolds Country House for your group in the summertime!

When looking for a house to rent for a large group, one of the most important things for your holiday is the bedrooms. It’s great that we offer guests a swimming pool, garden and spacious self catering accommodation for family and friends to relax in, but everyone needs a good night’s sleep, right?! With four bedrooms, we can accommodate eight guests. Each bedroom has double beds (two double beds, one king bed and one superking bed!). One of the bedrooms can also be split into two twin beds (the superking bedroom), so the maximum occupancy of the house is for groups of eight adults - there’s plenty of space for travel cots so small children aren’t included in the total of eight. That being said, we regularly have groups of six people or four people (one bedroom per person!) and even have the occasional romantic couple visiting Kingham who have the whole house to themselves. One of the bedrooms has its own bath in the room and one is an en-suite with standing shower. There is also an upstairs bathroom with bath and wash basin for all the rooms to use. All of our beds are extremely comfortable (medium firm mattresses with a bit of give) - perfect for a good night’s sleep after a day of walking or dining out in Oxfordshire or the surrounding Cotswolds area.

It’s only just past half way through November, but with Black Friday upon us next week, it’s nearly time for the popular Kingham Christmas Fair (including Santa’s Grotto!) next Sunday 27th November. The Cotswolds at Christmas is a magical place to be - there’s something extra special about a cosy fireplace in the winter months - and there are three such pubs that offer just that within walking distance of Cotswolds Country House - The Kingham Plough, Wild Rabbit and Bledington Kings Head all have amazing fires going throughout the day.

Plus if you stay with us, there is a brilliant log burning stove in the property (we provide the wood and kindling!) that you can unwind on the sofas in front of while playing board games, having a cuppa (perhaps wine!) or watch TV. We’ve got four bedroom, space for eight people to stay with us, so it’s a great place to relax in the warmth after a big day out walking in the Cotswolds or a meal in one of the local pubs.
